Shanay Holmes is an award-winning,critically acclaimed West End leading actress, recording artist, and producer.

Her portrayal of Nancy in Oliver! (2024)—premiering at Chichester Festival Theatre before transferring to the Gielgud Theatre—was met with extensive critical acclaim and earned her the Black British Theatre Award for Best Female Lead Actor in a Musical. Critics consistently highlighted the emotional intensity and vocal power of her performance. The Stage praised her rendition of “As Long As He Needs Me” as delivered “with sorrow and anguish. It’s rousing stuff,” while WhatsOnStage described her performance as “a powerhouse,” noting that she “takes the Chichester roof off not once but twice.” The Daily Mail called her Nancy “the heart and soul of this show,” The Telegraph described her as an “excellent, leather-lunged Nancy,” and The Guardian hailed her as “a remarkable singer.” Across the press, her work was repeatedly described as “spine-tingling,” “soul-baring,” and an example of “extraordinary artistry.”

Her theatre credits include leading roles in major productions such as Miss Saigon (Ellen, Sheffield Theatres), which The Times described as “volcanic”; Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical (Cindy Breakspeare), where The Stage cited her “stand-out performance”; The Bridges of Madison County (Marian, Menier Chocolate Factory); The Wizard of Oz (Glinda, Birmingham Rep); RENT – 20th Anniversary (Joanne Jefferson); Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Narrator); The Bodyguard Musical (Rachel Marron); and Thriller Live (Female Lead Singer).

Beyond the theatre, Shanay has performed at landmark venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Stadium, and has appeared at nationally recognised events such as the Olivier Awards and the Royal Variety Performance.

Alongside her performance career, Shanay is an award-winning producer and entrepreneur, and co-creator of the West End Musical franchise, delivering large-scale live events that celebrate musical theatre and its audiences. These include the weekly West End Musical Brunch, alongside multiple annual concert editions of West End Musical Christmas, West End Musical Halloween, and West End Musical Love Songs.

Shanay also produced a staged concert of Bat Boy: The Musical at the London Palladium and has co-produced West End productions of important contemporary works including When Black Boys Consider Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy and Retrograde. She also conceived and is the co-founder of Musical Con, the world’s largest musical theatre fan convention, held annually at ExCeL London.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shanay co-created West End Musical Drive-In, one of the first large-scale live events designed to reunite performers and audiences safely during a period of industry shutdown. She was also among the first producers to reopen the West End with West End Musical Celebration at the Palace Theatre.

Her producing work has been recognised with Best Producer and Best Production awards at the 2022 Black British Theatre Awards, as well as the Lord Hastings Award in 2024, acknowledging her contribution to theatre.
